Kia Makes a Strong Showing in the 2023 World Car Awards

Kia has reason to celebrate as three of its models have been named as finalists in three different categories in the 2023 World Car Awards. The Kia Niro is among the finalists for the coveted 2023 World Car of the Year award, while its electric variant, the Niro EV, has been shortlisted for the 2023 World Electric Vehicle category. Finally, the EV6 GT with its impressive 567 horsepower has made it to the final rounds of the 2023 World Performance Car category.

The World Car Awards were launched in 2003 to reflect the global automotive industry’s changing landscape and recognize excellence, leadership, and innovation. The winners will be announced during a live ceremony at the 2023 New York International Auto Show on April 5, 2023.

Kia is thrilled to have received nominations in all three categories from the esteemed panel of World Car Awards jurors. All three models are powered by electrification, highlighting the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility as it strives to become a leading provider of eco-friendly vehicles.

The trio of finalists has already gained critical acclaim and numerous awards globally. The EV6, in particular, has an overflowing awards cabinet, having recently won the Golden Steering Wheel award in Germany’s “Mid-size and Luxury” category, the title of “Best EV of 2022” from The Drive, and North American Utility Vehicle of the Year by the North American Car of the Year jury.

The Niro, meanwhile, is gaining traction in the market, with three electrified powertrains to choose from: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric. It was named a finalist for the European Car of the Year Award in November 2021, named Cars.com’s Best Car of 2023, and won the Golden Steering Wheel award in the “Compact SUV” category, considered one of Germany’s most important automotive awards. The Niro also bagged the Best Urban Model in the Women’s World Car of the Year competition and is in the running for the overall trophy of the Women’s World Car of the Year.
